Doug and Fran went above and beyond expectations to accommodate us at short notice, (we stayed October 2014) they were in the middle of the mayors party but didnt give a second thought to leaving and preparing for our arrival within an hour, When we arrived we were really impressed with the house from the outside and ouir experience just got better and better, on arrival we were shown to our room which was lovely and spacious, very tastefully decorated and furnished in keeping with the age of the house, and loved all the little extras (a womans touch) whilst we settled in Doug was busy getting refreshments and snacks for us, The dining room was really great with its floor to ceiling christmas tree (in October!)we enjoyed chatting with them so much we ended up spending the evening together at their favourite local restaurant which was lovely, My friend and I loved the ride in his 1987 Jag. Breakfast was great and they even managed to fill my hubby and you must try Doug's mini Pecan muffins, our only regret was we didnt take more of them with us for our onward journey. We definitely had the experience of arriving as strangers and leaving as friends and who knows never say never, thank you for a wonderfui highlight of our holiday.

We have stayed in B&Bs all over the world, and few places can rival the innate grandeur of this Federal Period home, or the hospitality of its owners, Fran and Doug. We felt like we were staying in Mt. Vernon or Monticello - the home has such majestic proportions - huge windows, high ceilings, detailed woodwork and very tasteful decoration. Fran and Doug made us feel immediately at home with glasses of wine and a cheese plate, then helped us make reservations at the very fun Blue Dog Cafe (which lives up to its reputation!) After dinner, we spent the evening quietly reading on comfortable leather chairs in the living room, and then retired to a too-comfortable bed that made it hard to get up in the morning. But breakfast made rising worth while - Doug is such an attentive host and prepared everything to our taste. Fran was just amazing at anticipating every need.
We have already fallen in love with the kayaking in Snow Hill (Pocomoke Canoe Company is the best!) and now that we have found the ideal B&B in town, I know that several visits a year (to see the river in every season) will be penciled into our calendars with happy anticipation.
We want to thank Fran and Doug for hosting such a wonderful stay at Chanceford Hall. Ed and I really enjoy our evening walking around town and shopping. We later had dinner at the Harvest Moon Tavern and enjoyed music and drinks. Upon our return to Chanceford Hall we roamed about the house learning about the history of the house. I must say Fran and/or Doug were able to answer any questions regarding the history and showed a true love for this home. Our room was very spacious and clean. It was an added bonus that we had our own bathroom in the room! I must also say that Doug is a wonderful cook and breakfast was delicious! I would recommend to anyone who would love to stay in a small town and has a love for B&B's!!
